Coderina × Federal Ministry of Education

National Robotics Championship 2026

Over three days, more than 500 students from across Nigeria competed under the theme “UNEARTHED”. I helped tell the story from the first announcement to national news, not as a competition but as a story about young Nigerians building the future.

02Overview

The National Robotics Championship is one of Coderina's biggest national programmes, run in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education. In 2026 it brought students from federal unity colleges, state and private schools to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League, under the theme “UNEARTHED”.

My aim was to make sure the championship was told as more than a competition: a national story about young Nigerians building, creating and solving problems. That meant translating robotics and STEM into warm, accessible language for students, parents, educators, partners, government and the wider public.

The campaign moved from announcement to countdown to live coverage, then into post-event stories about the teams heading to international championships. The story didn't stay on our own channels. It was picked up by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and by independent Nigerian media.

03How the story unfolded
  1. 01

    Awareness

Announced the championship, its dates and the UNEARTHED theme with one consistent hashtag identity. People commented asking how to take part.

  2. 02

    Countdown

Built anticipation in the run-up, so the championship felt like a moment rather than a single post.

  3. 03

    Live storytelling

Brought the arena online as it happened, with photos and stories of students building, testing and competing.

  4. 04

    Earned media

The story moved into government and independent news, led by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
